The Mimic is species of Typhon that can imitate any nearby inanimate object of its same mass or smaller.

Description[]

Typhon Research[]

  • The first Mimic was discovered by Russian cosmonauts in 1953.
  • The mimic is a subspecies of the Typhon and the seeming progenitor of most other Typhon organisms.
  • Mimics prey on conscious organisms.
  • They reproduce via a kind of psychoactive mitosis.

Excerpt from Psychotronics Database[]

  • Common Name: Mimic
  • Scientific Name: Typhon cacoplasmus

One of the first Typhon discovered during the Vorona I incident in 1960, Mimics are capable of imitating nearby objects.

During incident case #0648-040163, it was observed that Mimics use other living organisms as a reproduction medium, killing their prey in the process.

In accordance with the Pobeg Protocol, Mimic specimens are not to be released in environments with a containment rating of less than S4.

Morgan's Notes[]

Imitation power seems limited to objects roughly the size of the mimic iteself. Could the psychoscope be modified somehow to detect hidden ones? Get to high ground and immobilize with GLOO Cannon

Behavior[]

Upon detecting a conscious creature, the Mimic returns to its true form and attempts to kill the creature.

During combat, the Mimic will attempt to bludgeon its victim and eventually force one of its four arm-like appendages down the victim's throat, draining the life essence from them. If the Mimic is overwhelmed, injured or outnumbered, it will attempt to flee and copy a nearby object.

Upon killing a conscious being, the mimic multiplies. 3 additional mimics are the result of this process.

Mimics seem to have an affinity for standard TranStar coffee mugs.

Mimics change form by changing places with a similar object in a parallel universe.

Mimics can survive in a vacuum indefinitely because they can shift dimensions to a place where time passes much more slowly.

Trivia[]

  • The visual design of Mimics is a possible reference to Half-Life Headcrabs, aliens that crawl along the ground and jump to attempt to latch on to the heads of humans and look very similar to Prey's Mimics.
  • According to Raphael Colantonio, the inspiration for the Mimic's ability to imitate comes from the monster of the same name from Dungeons and Dragons, a pen and paper role-playing game.
